A fraction is a part of a whole. We talked about how something (like a pizza) can be divided into equal pieces (slices). If part of that pizza was eaten, we can describe it using a fraction. If the pizza had 8 equal pieces and 5 were eaten, we could say that 5/8 of the pizza was eaten. That means that 5 out of 8 pieces were eaten.
Sometimes we want to use a fraction to describe how much of a set. For example, if General Brock ordered pizza for the students they might order some cheese pizzas and some pepperoni pizzas. If there were 10 pizzas in total and 6 of those pizzas were cheese, then we would say that 6/10 of the pizzas are cheese. Have a look at the video in the link below for more of an explanation.
